Way back on April 16th 2011 I attended my Basic 1 Zumba Training in a cramped, hot studio in Sunderland. It was a long day and I left to journey back to Norwich full of information and daunted by the work I needed to get done ahead to prepare for my first class.
With just a handful of people I took my first class, my playlist consisted of 10 tracks... nowadays I cram 16/17 tracks into each class!!!
It’s been an amazing journey with too many highlights to recount. As a Team we have flashed many times to promote Breast Cancer Awareness and organised and been part of dozens of charity events.
In 2016 not only did we become South Norfolk’s Charity Fundraiser of the Year but I was invited to attend the Zumba Convention in Orlando where the owner of Zumba itself presented me with a surprise Award, the Zumba Love Award.
In 2017 I went back to the USA to Zincon once again where I co-organised a huge Zumba Gold breast cancer awareness flash mob using my choreography to ‘I’m still standing’
In 2018 my world turned upside down as I was secretly recruited to take over a session at the Zumba Convention. I trained and got my session ready in 4 short months and in July I Presented the first EVER Zumba Gold Jam for 120 Zumba Gold Instructors from all over the World!!! It was so much work but my goodness what a feeling of unbelievable achievement.
The highlight of my 8 years without any shadow of a doubt has been the amazing students I have taught along my journey, I’m just so privileged to have so many incredible people around me daily. Together we go through good and bad and we are always supporting each other.
I’m also very lucky to have an enormous network of Zumba Instructor friends from across the World. Not a day goes by when I don’t speak to one of them.
After 8 years I’m more passionate than ever before and this feeling still drives me daily to improve my teaching skills and bring fresh new choreography to my classes.
Happy Birthday to us Team Rachel looking forward to the next 8 years🎉❤️
